EV and Hybrid Servicing in Sydney — A 2026 Guide

EV and hybrid ownership is booming in Sydney. But servicing requirements are widely misunderstood — most owners think EVs need no maintenance at all. Here is what actually needs doing.

Sydney is one of Australia's fastest-adopting EV markets. The RAV4 Hybrid, Model 3, BYD Seal, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq and numerous plug-in hybrids are now common on Greater Sydney roads. Along with the adoption comes widespread confusion about servicing requirements — particularly the myth that EVs need no maintenance.

What EVs Still Need Serviced

  • Brakes — regen braking reduces wear but does not eliminate it; calipers can seize on EVs
  • Tyre rotation and replacement — EVs are heavier, tyres wear faster
  • Cabin air filter replacement
  • Wiper blades
  • Thermal management coolant (battery cooling loop)
  • Battery health check — State of Health (SoH) monitoring
  • Software-aware safety checks

What Hybrid Vehicles Still Need

Hybrids are the most misunderstood category. Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, and Corolla Hybrid still have petrol engines with oil, filters, spark plugs and cooling systems that need regular servicing — exactly as per the logbook. The hybrid battery and inverter system add items on top. Missing these services can void the manufacturer warranty.

High-voltage safety

Our technicians are trained in high-voltage safety procedures for hybrid and EV work. HV systems operate at 200–800V — this is not a DIY area. Always use a mechanic with appropriate training.

Battery Health Checks

We can connect to your EV or hybrid's battery management system to pull the State of Health (SoH) reading — a percentage indicating how much of the original capacity remains. A new battery is 100%; most manufacturers consider under 70% a warranty claim. This is a useful annual check, particularly for vehicles out of the battery warranty period.
